Audio covers it.
I'm starting a collection of audio book covers that are quite different from the covers on their better known paper book counterparts.
These are the ones I have which are different from my physical book covers (aside from the covers you have listed).
By Peter Brett The Warded Man The Desert Spear By Jim Butcher; Fool Moon Storm Front Grave Peril Summer Knight By Michael J Sullivan The Riyria Revelations series 1st 2 books in The Riyria Chronicles- The Crown Tower The Rose and the Thorn By Django Wexler 3 out of 5 of The Shadow Campaign series By Brandon Sanderson The 1st Mistborn trilogy By Robin Hobb (not sure about this one because there are so many different covers for her books) The Tawney Man trilogy
The evolution of the art between the Broken Empire books is so good though. With these the font changes the tone of the art is completely different which makes it feel less like a series.
Hi, This isn't about book covers but is related to audio books. I was wondering what your thoughts are on the inclusion of sound in audio books? Not necessarily music but FX/atmospheres similar to cinema or like the radiophonic work the BBC used to do in the 50s and 60s.
I think they already do that for some audiobooks. It's called graphic audio(?) and is a more expensive option often reserved for wildly successful children's books.
I don't listen to audiobooks (not even mine) so I have no strong opinion. If there is a demand for it from folk willing to pay what it costs ... go for it.
Thanks for the pointer. Did a search on Graphic Audio, they do a load of Brandon Sanderson stuff with the kind of thing I was thinking of. Pretty interesting. Thanks!

What's the rationale behind the difference between the covers? Different audiences, different publishers or just for the sake of it?
ReplyDeleteIt may be a different publisher with a different budget for art, and/or a different view of what their market will accept in terms of a cover.
