Here's the motivator:
Defaced by my doodles on the dedication page, signed on the author page & annotated with quotes from all three books of the Broken Empire trilogy! A collector's dream. A free book!
All you have to do to win is enter the draw. All you have to do to enter the draw is send a photo of you holding my book to be posted on the 'entries page'. But wait! There's bonuses...
i) picture of you holding my book = 1 entry into draw
ii) picture of you holding both my books = 2 entries into draw
iii) an interesting location or amusing shot wins 1 to 5 possible additional entries depending on how interesting/funny.
All entries go into a black bag. A winner is drawn. Simples.
Send entry photos to empire_of_thorns@yahoo.co.uk

ReplyDeleteIf you manage an honest expression so I believe one or both books are on display as the photo was taken - then yes!
DeleteWhen does the competition close?
DeleteI'll give a week's notice of it closing - when that happens is dependant on how fast entries come in.
DeleteIs it International? Only I have the first book in Spanish, but I'd like to try ...
ReplyDeleteHusgs :)
Yup, international (Curiosity Rover may not enter though).
DeleteNow I'm twice as happy that I bought 'King of Thorns' today =D
ReplyDeleteMight be too distracted reading it though...
What about audio books? I bought both books on audible, so does a picture with my iPod count?
ReplyDeleteThat Mars shot is so fake! Seriously it's winter time on Mars!
ReplyDeleteGoodluck everyone!
How much does your first book in two languages counts?
ReplyDeletetwo books, same story, different language ... ???
Julia
double! Triple if neither of them is English!
Deletedraw closes 7th September!
ReplyDeleteHA! I'm going to have to submit another one with my hair in a ponytail now.....
ReplyDeleteSent mine in! Skaboosh
ReplyDeleteDid mine count? Didn't show my mug in it tho!
ReplyDeleteKind regards
Marty
So... Congrats to the winner!
ReplyDeleteAnd for those of us fans/collectors experiencing heartache...Are you willing to sign books if sent to you? With return postage? Pretty please? With sugar on top?
-Ellie. Fantasy Fan?
Hi Ellie - the main issue with doing this is that postage is shockingly expensive (it's cheaper for me to send someone the money to buy a new book than to mail them one) and international return postage is complicated.
DeleteIt would honestly be cheaper (and far less time consuming) to go here:
http://www.vjbooks.com/Mark-Lawrence-The-King-of-Thorns-p/lawking01.htm
and buy a new signed copy. (these are cheap because only the page that gets signed is sent back and forth, the book is then made up after that).
Alternatively email me about bookplates!
If you're a super-keen collector and want the artwork then this is the place for you:
http://www.doodledbooks.com/mark-lawrence-1956-c.asp
Though very expensive & currently sold out of all my doodles. They will, I'm sure, get some doodled KoTs from me in due course.
Thank you for the info. It actually helps on several levels-- bought a signed Prince of Thorns from VJBooks last year and then doubted the authenticity (the issue with the booming communications era... snake oil salesman are everywhere). And the international postage issue is awful-- I've had a number of VAT-related apoplectic moments.
DeleteAt any rate, appreciate you getting back, and thank you for the links.
-Ellie
Nice question! I agree. And congrats to Will, you lucky son of a gun.
ReplyDeleteMarty
So close yet so far :-) Congrats to Will!
ReplyDeleteIt's good to hear you will probably be doing doodled copies of KoT. I really must have one to match my doodled PoT!
