Author Courtney Schafer is able to read a fat book in about 2 hours...
Me ... I'm sloooooooow. Part of it's being busy, part is mild dyslexia, part being easily distracted.
Since my post this time last year I've managed to read 12 books (I'm on my 13th), 2 graphic novels, and 1 novella.
I also read out loud 16 children's books to my daughter, Celyn (at the bottom of the list).

As is my wont I have reviewed all of these books on Goodreads and you can reach those reviews by clicking on the covers. Listed in chronological order of reading.
Of all of these I have to say The Wise Man's Fear was best read. Alan Garner's Red Shift the most literary (despite allegedly being a children's book!). In Midnight's Silence was also excellent - I could learn to love novellas!

My first self-published read, a SPFBO finalist.
Books I read to Celyn (11)
This explains everything, Mark. Yes, it is a passtime I am sure you love, for a writer needs to be a good reader too. But I agree with you that keeping a day job, caring for one's family, and being a writer in the evenings, takes a lot out of a person. So 12 books a year is a feat any writer can be proud of. I think I just about manage that number myself. Good on those fortunates you mentioned above who can read more. For us, 12 will suffice.
ReplyDeleteHave a good day, my friend.
