I'm not sure who this might interest, but there are always a few people who ask the sorts of questions that are partly answered in the diagram below.
These data arrived recently and refer to sales via my UK publisher, so primarily UK sales, but also in Australia and New Zealand and anywhere that the Voyager editor sell. This includes places like Norway where a great many of the natives speak English very well and most fantasy books are not translated.
These figures constitute approximately half my total sales, since although America (plus Canada) has a much bigger population than the UK (plus Aus & NZ) I still only sell about the same number of books in those territories via my US publisher (Ace) as I do via my UK publisher (Voyager).
- You always expect sales to decline across a trilogy.
- The longer a trilogy has been out, the more time it has had to make sales - though most will happen early on.
- The third book of the Library trilogy had only been out 6 months when these numbers came in, and was not yet out in paperback.
